Soya Dal being cooked

Soya Dal being cooked

You have heard of Soya milk, but Soya Dal? Hmmmmmm ..

Tonight when I came back from office, Futchu had prepared Pao Bhaji which was just delicious. But soon it was time for dinner and we were wondering just like everyday of what to cook. I decided to take up the challenge today and Futchu suggested that we cook Soya Dal.

Now what exactly Soya Dal is? It’s pulses boiled with Soya chunks and then mixed with fried onions + tomatoes + cilantro.

What is that?

Pulses are low fat, high fibre, no cholesterol, low glycemic index, high protein, high nutrient foods. They are excellent foods for people managing their diabetes, heart disease or coeliac disease. Pulses are also good for people who want to eat healthy food to help reduce their risk of heart disease or diabetes. Additionally, pulses can help people concerned with weight control.

Soy protein has been used since 1959 as ingredients for its functional properties in a variety of foods such as salad dressings, soups, vegetarian foods and meat imitations. Its functional properties are emulsification and texturizing. Recently the popularity of soy protein is increasing, mainly because of its health benefits. It has been proven that soy protein can help to prevent heart problems and many countries allow health claims for food, which are rich in soy protein.

So let me share the recipe of this wonderful dish with you. I am sure you will like it. Not only is it full of protein but also it can be prepared with very less oil, unlike most Indian inspired dishes.

Here it goes,

Things you need

Two cups of Masur dal (Pulses)
50 chunks of Soya
2 Tomatoes chopped
1 big onion chopped
1 bunch of Cilantro
1 tbsp of veg oil
Salt to taste
1 pinch of turmeric powder
1 tbsp of chilli powder

Process

Wash the pulses very properly till all the white color is washed.
Start boiling the pulses with enough water
Mix the Soya Chunks and boil them together with the pulses
Add some salt to taste
Fry the chopped onions, tomatoes and cilantro in the oil and add the turmeric powder along with the chili powder and some salt
Once fried golden brown mix the boiled dal and soya chunks and add some water to boil the same in low heat till thick

And you are done !! Enjoy

Rab ne bana di Jodi

Rab ne bana di Jodi

Shahrukh movies always leave you with a hangover the next day. You tend to live in the movie, feel like the star and still feel buzzed about the whole performance and the extravagant experience.

Rab ne bana di jodi, however didnt have this effect on me today. A simple, sweet love story failed to make you high. But that is all you need right? You got to see Shahrukh paired up with Anoushka Sharma in a sweet love triangle with the hero’s another avatar. I loved the movie till the moment I was in the theatre.

Lamb Chops

Lamb Chops

Our whole group went for the show, followed by another great dinner at Ravi Kabob. The food again was awesome. Each time we go to Ravi’s we think that we will order one plate and share but that never happens. We end up not being able to complete the meal. We had Lamb Chop’s and Chicken curry with Rice, Tandoori Roti, Salad, Mixed veggies and Chole. I must however, recommend the Kashmiri Chai of this place. It’s awesome !!

Cheers ~

Mojito in LA

Mojito in LA

We were in LA few days back. It was fun, the weather was great, the jovial mood of all of us were contagious. To top it off, we had some great food and drinks. I remember this one where we went from the Redondo Beach to North Beach. We saw the Queen Mary from a distance then drove around opposite to the harbour to satisfy Satish’s craving for Seafood.

Satish, Pragnya and Amogh went for the Seafood, whereas the rest of us settled for a Mexican place. We were not that hungry so ordered different kinds of Mojito’s with Chicken wing’s and Tortilla with a spicy Salsa. The food was awesome, the drinks were more so. I guess the timing and geo of the location did the magic. The sun was setting down, we sat outside under the large umbrellas and waited for our drink to come. And there they were .. frosted, minty, mushed – awesome.

I knew how to make Mojito’s but after coming back did some research on how to make more authentic ones. Did you know Mojito originates in Cuba? Here goes the simple steps to create one ..

Things You’ll Need:

2 ounces white rum
2 ounces lime juice (squeezed from lime)
2 ounces club soda
4 mint leaves
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Crushed ice

How to:

Place the mint leaves into a tall cocktail glass.
Squeeze about 2 ounces of juice from a cut lime into the glass.
Add the powdered sugar.
Then, gently mash the ingredients together with the back of a spoon.
Add crushed ice and 2 ounces white rum then stir. You can shake it in a cocktail shaker as well (Bond would’nt have liked it though)
Top off with 2 ounces club soda and voila! you have an authentic Cuban mojito.

And there you go !!

Cheers
